August 19—Weariness

The word for today is weariness.

“I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint” (Jer. 31:25).

“If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?” (Jer. 12:5).

“You were wearied by all your ways, but you would not say, ‘It is hopeless.’ You found renewal of your strength, and so you did not faint” (Isa. 57:10).

“For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you may not grow weary and lose heart” (Heb. 12:3).

“I am worn out from groaning; all night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears” (Ps. 6:6).

“I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God” (Ps. 69:3).

“And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we shall reap if we do not grow weary” (Gal. 6:9).

“Therefore, let us fear lest, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it” (Heb. 4:1).

“This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: ‘In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it’” (Isa. 30:15).

Prayer: Lord, my meditation comes from Isaiah this morning: “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.”
