December 16—Intercession

The word for today is intercession.

“In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety” (Heb. 5:7).

“Hence, also, He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them” (Heb. 7:25).

“Pray without ceasing; … Brethren, pray for us” (1 Thess. 5:17, 25).

“I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” (Jer. 32:27).

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearch-able things you do not know” (Jer. 33:3).

“Then Samuel said, ‘Assemble all Israel at Mizpah and I will intercede with the Lord for you’” (1 Sam. 7:5).

“As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right” (1 Sam. 12:23).

“To this end also we pray for you always that our God may count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power” (2 Thess. 1:11).

“Finally, brethren, pray for us that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you” (2 Thess. 3:1).

Prayer: Lord, John’s words in 1 John 5:14, 15 come to mind: “And this is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him”
