December 5—A Pearl for Today

“For when she poured this perfume upon My body, she did it to prepare Me for burial” (Matt. 26:12).

LIVE AS EACH DAY COULD BE YOUR LAST AND ONE DAY YOU WILL BE RIGHT!

Fred Faulkner was one of my favorite people. One could always depend on Fred for a smile, a firm handshake, and encouraging words. He was chairman of the evangelism committee at Hide-A-Way Community Church, when Don was pastor.

I say was because Fred is now with his Lord. Fred’s wife Mary Jane, told Don that one of the last things she read to him was a card I had sent him. That card sat on my desk for a week before I finally mailed it, and I thank God that I did not procrastinate any longer. It brings me much joy to know Fred was reminded once more of my love for him.

Mary must have felt this way about her anointing the Lord with her extravagant gift of perfume. As she saw Him die on the cross, she surely had no regrets because she had showed her love to Him before He died.

Scripture clearly teaches the reality of death. “And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once” (Heb. 10:27). 2 Corinthians 4:16: “Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.”

Live, believing in the reality of death.

Hebrews 1:11-12: “They will perish, but Thou remainest; and they will become old as a garment, and as a mantle thou wilt roll them up; as a garment they will also be changed. But Thou art the same, and Thy years will not come to an end” (NASB).

George McDonald writes, “We seek not death, but still we climb the stairs where death is one wide landing to the rooms above.”

Is there a card you need to send today?
