“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know” (Jer. 33:3 NASB).
JESUS PAID IT ALL
Four of our five children attended Biola, a Christian university in LaMirada, California, in the Los Angeles area. Don and I have lived more than 30 years in Texas, where we raised our family. It was a big adjustment for us when the kids left for college, especially with Biola so far away.
One day I laughed to myself recalling the day we put our middle child and oldest son, Bobby, on the plane for California and college life, I could imagine big sister Donna teaching little brother Bobby the ropes at Biola. “Now, Bobby, the first thing to learn is how to make a collect call home.” This was obviously well before the days of cell phones.
All of our kids learned the college lesson of collect calling very well!! Don and I actually did not mind paying the bill, because we loved hearing from the kids. This is the same way our heavenly Father feels. We can make collect calls to Him any time or anywhere, because He has paid the bill. The call does not cost us anything, but it was very costly for Him. It cost Him His only Son.
Just as Don and I enjoyed our calls from the kids, so our heavenly Father is listening for your call. There are many verses in the scriptures where God invites us to call. He is waiting for your call and will answer immediately. He does not have call waiting!!
“And call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me” (Ps. 50:15 NASB).
“Then you will CALL upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you” (Jer. 29:12 NASB).
Prayer: the next best thing to being there!
