November 1—Rock

The word for today is rock.

“He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just.
A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he. … You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot the God who gave you birth” (Deut. 32:4, 18).

“There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God” (1 Sam. 2:2).

“Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the Lord: Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn” (Isa. 51:1).

“But the Lord has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge” (Ps. 94:22).

“Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation” (Ps. 95:1).

“For this is contained in Scripture: ‘Behold I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone, And he who believes in Him shall not be disappointed.’ This precious value, then, is for you who believe. But for those who disbelieve, ‘The stone which the builders rejected, This became the very corner stone,’ and, ‘A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense’; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed” (1 Pet. 2:6-8).

“From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I” (Ps. 61:2).

Prayer: Lord, I find myself singing this morning: “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ the solid Rock I stand; all other ground is sinking sand. All other ground is sinking sand.”
