November 26—Sorrow

The word for today is sorrow.

“How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?” (Ps. 13:2).

“But when I was silent and still, not even saying anything good, my anguish increased” (Ps. 39:2).

“A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit” (Prov. 15:13).

“O my Comforter in sorrow, my heart is faint within me” (Jer. 8:18).

“That I have great sorrow and unceasing grief in my heart” (Rom. 9:2).

“As sorrowful yet always rejoicing, as poor yet making many rich, as having nothing yet possessing all things” (2 Cor. 6:10).

“‘But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. … Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned to joy. Whenever a woman is in travail she has sorrow, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she remembers the anguish no more, for joy that a child has been born into the world. Therefore you too now have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one takes your joy away from you’” (John 16:6, 20-22).

“And He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away” (Rev. 21:4).

Prayer: Lord, thank You that You are the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our afflictions, so we in turn can comfort others.
