September 15—Desire

The word for today is desire.

“Then the Lord said to Cain, ‘Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it’” (Gen. 4:6-7).

“Is not my house right with God? Has he not made with me an everlasting covenant, arranged and secured in every part? Will he not bring to fruition my salvation and grant me my every desire?” (2 Sam. 23:5).

“You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry” (Ps. 10:17).

“You have granted him the desire of his heart and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah” (Ps. 21:2).

“Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you” (Ps. 73:25).

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life” (Prov. 13:12).

“Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts” (Isa. 26:8).

“Brethren, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation” (Rom. 10:1).

“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Ps. 37:3-4).

“You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing. … He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them” (Ps. 145:16, 19).

Prayer: Lord, a longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, when the longing is from You. A fool detests turning from evil.
