September 19—A Pearl for Today
“Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if you are asked about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it” (1 Pet. 3:15 NLT).
“Everyone enjoys a fitting reply; it is wonderful to say the right thing at the right time” (Prov. 15:23 NLT).
“We can gather our thoughts, but the Lord gives the right answer” (Prov. 16:1 NLT).
WHEN YOU NEED THE RIGHT ANSWER FAST
Our son-in-law Ray was in Seattle to attend a Microsoft employee workshop a few years ago. Just as he walked in a side entrance of the convention center, an elevator door opened and out walked Bill Gates with his bodyguard. Evidently, the side door was supposed to be locked because the bodyguard cocked a suspicious eye at Ray, walked right over and asked sternly, “What are doing in this area?”
Ray replied, “I was just deciding which way to go to get to my seminar.”
The man responded, “Then you are from the Dallas office?” Ray said he was, and when Bill Gates saw them conversing, he walked over. After being introduced, Ray told Mr.Gates how his wife (our daughter Becky) liked to watch the way he handled the news media.
“I don’t know that I’ve done such a good job lately,” Gates remarked.
They parted. Ray found his way to the seminar, still hardly believing he had had the opportunity to meet Bill Gates.
Just as Ray needed to answer the bodyguard quickly, 1 Peter 3:15 states we are to always be ready to give an answer to every man who asks the reason for our hope of salvation.
Prepare to give an answer for the hope within you so you won’t be unprepared when you get the chance!
