October 12—Youth
The word for today is youth.
“For you write down bitter things against me and make me inherit the sins of my youth” (Job 13:26)
“For you have been my hope, O Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth. … Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds” (Ps. 71:5, 17).
“Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace” (Ps. 144:12).
“Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, ‘I find no pleasure in them’” (Eccles. 12:1).
“Be happy, young man, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment” (Eccles. 11:9).
“After I strayed, I repented; after I came to understand, I beat my breast. I was ashamed and humiliated because I bore the disgrace of my youth” (Jer. 31:19).
“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isa. 40:30-31).
“Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe” (1 Tim. 4:12).
Prayer: Lord, may the godly youth I know follow in the steps of Jesus: “And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.”
