October 6—Roots
The word for today is roots.
“But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit” (Jer. 17:7-8).
“I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).
“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude” (Col. 2:6-7).
“I thought, ‘I will die in my own house, my days as numerous as the grains of sand. My roots will reach to the water, and the dew will lie all night on my branches’” (Job 29:18-19).
“And if the first piece of dough be holy, the lump is also; and if the root be holy, the branches are too” (Rom. 11:16).
“For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith, and pierced themselves with many a pang” (1 Tim. 6:10).
“See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled” (Heb. 12:15).
“A man cannot be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted. … The wicked desire the plunder of evil men, but the root of the righteous flourishes” (Prov. 12:3, 12).
“So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love” (Eph. 3:17).
Prayer: Lord, I want You to be glorified by much fruit in my life.
